4.0 beta release?

Looks like you all have some big changes coming (i.e. PRs #66 and #67). Are you planning a beta release? Will you be going directly to 4.0 or will there be an intermediate release? I would really appreciate any clarity you can provide so I can get to work preparing. Thanks!

Current plan is to have a release actually/essentially corresponding to what's in the master branch currently, so not including those newer/bigger PRs. And then a release with those would follow later (and would probably be 4.0).
