Digest authentication support

Could this be a possibility?
Sending over a password in plaintext is something I don't really like.

To add in, digest authentication is sending;
(Bash)

htdigest_hash=`printf $username:$AUTH_REALM:$rand_pw | md5sum -`
echo "$username:$AUTH_REALM:${htdigest_hash:0:32}"

Where auth_realm is the name if your webdav share, e.g. "Media" and $rand_pw your password.
