Hmmmmm very interesting.... -c should be supported from version 1.8 upwards. Maybe there is an issue with case? I'll make a quick change that should fix it.

No, -c does something else... I'm going to have to do it manually as -C doesn't appear to have full support. Will fix it before the night is up.

--git-dir and --work-tree should accomplish the same thing -C is doing

Hm I now get:

fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Please make sure you have the correct access rights

and the repository exists.
